The study explores the interplay between ethical business practices and the socio-economic life of the South African communities and how it can support sustainable development. This abstract provides a succinct overview of the research focus on the significant role that business ethics plays in fostering local economic development within the unique context of South Africa. This is a nation characterised by a diversity of people and shows the socio-economic disparities existing among its citizens and is struggling to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Against this background, the research delves into the pivotal role that business ethics plays to propel local economic development. Business ethics entails principles and practices that guide any organisation to conduct business affairs responsibly, transparently and committing to society’s well-being. The study employs a qualitative method to investigate the challenges of employing ethics in local economic development and engaging with key stakeholders. The expected outcome of this study goes beyond academic insights to inform policymakers, communities, and business on strategies to enhance ethical fabric of local economic development. The study will contribute to the creation of a sustainable economic ecosystems that prioritise the well-being of stakeholders in the communities and advancing the goals of social and economic development. The findings of the study have the possibility of influencing both policy frameworks and corporate practices binding with more equitable and ethical environment in support of the local economic development. The study concluded that ethics have a role to play in ensuring the ethos of local economic development are maintained and achieved for the emancipation of the local citizens in South Africa.
