Physiological Phenomena that Cause Troubles and Suffering or Even Death: Part I: Non-phenoptotic Phenomena

A general definition of disease could be any phenomenon causing trouble, suffering of any kind, and even death. However, a number of phenomena would fall within this definition while they are certainly useful, i.e., adaptive, physiological phenomena, and so cannot be considered disease. Such phenomena are divided into two groups in this book. The first group, which is the subject of the exposition of this chapter, includes all phenomena not falling under the definition of “phenoptosis”. The phenomena of the second group belong to those defined as “phenoptosis” and will be discussed in the following Chap. 7—Physiological phenomena that cause troubles and suffering or even death—Part II: Phenoptotic phenomena different from slow phenoptosis, and Chap. 8—Physiological phenomena that cause troubles and suffering or even death—Part III: Slow phenoptosis or aging.
