Anger and Change in Korean American Literature is about the ability to be heard in a world that normally does not take such voices into account. This text foregrounds the role of anger in both pinpointing injustice and suggesting alternatives. And Korean American literature has a specific role to play in this foregrounding, since the experiences of the “forgotten” Korean War, the specific military-mediated experiences of much of Korean’s immigration to the United States in the twentieth century, as well as role of Korean Americans in some of the largest upheavals in American social changes, all inform a specific relation of anger to its expression and use. Using the various texts under discussion, I posit that anger can, at least in certain contexts, function as a positive fulcrum for change.
