This chapter combines some brilliant analyses of Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Lobster (2015) by respected non-Greek academics, with new interviews with the film’s acclaimed screenwriter, Efthimis Filippou, and seasoned animal wrangler, Eddie Drew, who provide enlightening insights into their respective thought/creative/artistic and training/managing processes, lines of work, and the occasionally banal practical limitations governing even big productions as regards the nonhumans/species that eventually appear on screen. Eddie Drew makes some key distinctions between the types of cinematic nonhumans from his point of view, shares precious stories about The Lobster’s particular unknown nonhumans, while part of the chapter is dedicated to Eddie’s own fascinating life and career, and of course his relationship(s) with (film) animals.
