In this chapter we introduce key concepts and methods that are used in image analysis. Starting with the general problem of how to restore an image to be a closer representation of the original object. We then look at computational methods including filtering, transformation, resampling, all of which are regularly used in image analysis applications. Finally, we consider how we handle multiple images that are combined in a series and how these can be decomposed into components.
