Pharmacists are afforded the opportunity to practice the profession of pharmacy in a variety of different settings. Some unique pharmacy practice settings that will be discussed in this chapter include consultant pharmacy, nuclear pharmacy, and parenteral pharmacy. In addition, pharmacists who desire to train future pharmacists may serve as preceptors for externs and interns. Pharmacists who practice in these unique settings and preceptors must be certified by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy. The certification process includes completing an online application as well as certain training and continuing education requirements, depending on the certification.
