Numerous federal and state laws, codes, statutes, and rules have been put into place to regulate the storage, distribution, and handling of medications by manufacturers, wholesale distributors, third-party logistics providers, repackagers, and pharmacies. Regulations mandate regular inventories, appropriate storage and handling of medications and medication samples, accurate recordkeeping, and proper disposal of drugs by an ultimate user. Laws pertaining to medications kept behind the pharmacy counter, particularly pseudoephedrine, are also addressed.
