Compressible Flow Concept, Velocity of Sound, and Mach Number
摘要
This chapter focuses on the fundamental basis of compressible flow, which is sonic velocity, described in Sect. 2.1. Section 2.2 is an extensive section which includes sonic velocity in a given medium, the bulk modulus and compressibility of medium, contrasting properties for solids, liquids, and gases, propagation of compression wave, equation for sonic velocity, sonic velocity in a gas, and simplified equations for sonic velocity in air. Mach number is the most fundamental parameter used in analysis of compressible flow and it is examined in detail in Sect. 2.3 including its physical significance. The criteria for different types of compressible flows such as subsonic, sonic, and supersonic are also examined in this section.
