Use of Point Cloud Analysis for Current Geometry Extraction During Robotic Roller Forming
摘要
Robotic Roller Forming is a novel process that utilizes the benefits of roller forming and the flexibility of robots to bend metal sheet into profiles. The process itself occurs incrementally and after each increment the sheet metal is subjected to some springback. As a result, the bend angle increment is not constant as anticipated. Further, the flange of the profile develops edge waves throughout the bending process. To better control the process itself and to gain insights into the development of the edge waves a 3D-camera is introduced. With the 3D-camera the sheet metal geometry is captured during the process via a point cloud. With a set of experiments the applicability of extracting data from the point cloud for the current sheet metal geometry is examined. The bend angle was captured with a 0.7% deviation and the bend radius at 2.7% deviation from the final geometry. Further, the edge waves the edge waves could be seen, even in a seemingly flat flange. The 3D-camera for robotic forming operations proved to be a useful tool to gain deeper insights into the process.
