As tendinopathy appears to be more of a degenerative process, regenerative medicine and “orthobiology” have tremendous potential in improving tendinopathy healing. Both autologous blood products and cellular therapy are being investigated as strategies for the treatment and/or prevention of tendinopathy. PRP, autologous conditioned serum (ACS), autologous conditioned plasma (ACP), and alpha-2-macroglobulin are plasma-based therapies. Cell-based therapies for tendinopathy include bone marrow aspirate (BMA), bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), and adipose tissue (micro-fragmented or stromal vascular fraction) and perinatal tissue. The concept of exosomal therapies offer an exciting future potential for tendinopathy treatment.
