Perceptual speech assessment is the gold standard for evaluation of speech outcomes. This chapter describes the challenges associated with perceptual assessment of speech and resonance and best practices for improving validity and reliability of these assessments. A review of the most commonly employed assessment protocols along with suggestions for what should be included in a speech assessment battery is described.
