Children with cleft palate may present with a variety of speech disorders affecting articulation, voice, and/or resonance. The diagnostic process, described earlier in this text, is the starting point for planning speech treatment. The focus of this chapter will be on indications for speech therapy and the role of speech therapy versus surgery. Speech therapy approaches for the remediation of compensatory misarticulations are described in detail.
