This research explores the impact of advanced artificial intelligence on user privacy in Oman and Bahrain, with a specific focus on the role of mind-reading technology in smartphones. The study employs a qualitative approach, featuring eight focus group discussions with university students from Oman and Bahrain. It aims to investigate several important topics, including: The findings reveal that while participants are generally aware that smartphones have mind-reading capabilities, their understanding of how this technology works is very limited. The study also uncovers participants’ concerns regarding privacy, highlighting their experiences and worries related to the privacy paradox. These insights deepen our understanding of how advanced smartphone technologies affect user privacy in Oman and Bahrain. The results are highly valuable for policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers, assisting them in addressing the ethical and privacy issues that arise with the use of mind-reading technology. By considering participants’ concerns and suggestions, the study aims to promote a balance between technological advancement and the protection of user privacy in the realm of advanced smart technologies.
