Assessing Smart and Sustainable Technology Adoption in Kerala’s Residential Sector: Barriers and Opportunities

In today’s context, individuals are utilizing various ranges of smart and sustainable technologies to improve convenience and quality of life. Nearly all smart devices, such as smart thermostats and smart lighting, prioritize enhancing resource efficiency, thereby reducing the overall environmental footprint. Aligned with advancing sustainability development goals, it is essential to integrate these devices across various sectors, including industries, commercial buildings, public offices, and residential homes. This study focuses on analysing the emerging trend in the Kerala residential sector concerning the implementation of smart and sustainable devices, such as home automation systems and safety solutions. It also emphasizes identifying the challenges and opportunities individuals encounter while adopting to the usage of these devices. Identifying these factors will help provide insights to improve the adoption of these devices and, in turn, contribute to achieving sustainability goals.
