Heat Transfer Enhancement Techniques: An Overview

Heat transfer enhancement techniques are widely researched to improve the efficiency and performance of thermal systems, which are critical in industries like power generation, aerospace, and electronics cooling. These techniques aim to increase the heat transfer rate without significantly increasing energy consumption or system size. Broadly, enhancement methods can be classified into passive, active, and compound techniques. Active techniques involve mechanical aids such as fans and jets, while passive techniques rely on surface treatments. Despite the differences, both methods operate on the same principle: breaking the boundary layer and promoting mixing within the fluid flow, which enhances convective heat transfer. This research focuses on techniques that generate vortices within the fluid domain, specifically using vortex generators (VGs) as enhancers.
