2E Analysis of an Earth-To-Air Geothermal Heat ExChanger Under Arid Zone

This study primarily investigates 2E (energy and exergy) performances earth to the Air Geothermal Heat Exchanger (EAGHE) for arid zone weather conditions in south Algeria. The technology is intended to be used to provide air conditioning in the zone using geothermal energy. The exchanger geometry is optimized to enhance heat transfer with the soil, reducing both operating costs and the required installation area. This study’s objective is to evaluate the EAGHE thermal performance. The EAGHE consists of 42 m in length and 0.110 m in diameter. The EAGHE was placed at a depth of 3 m. The exergy and energy efficiency of the EAGHE, are assessed and analyzed. The findings showed that the inlet air temperature has a substantial effect on performance, particularly as the difference between the ambient air and the soil temperature increases. The EAGHE achieves maximum exergy and energy efficiency of 89% and 92% respectively, attained at a mass flow rate of 0.025 kg s–1.
