Role of Motivation on Professionalism in Teachers

This study investigates the phenomenon of teaching through the lens of the role that motivation has on the element of professionalism of teachers. Motivation is identified as one of the prominent factors that influence the actions and behaviour of teachers as educators for the students. Professionalism is particularly associated with the development of teachers as professionals in the stream of education contributing to the innovation and progression of learning and educational journey of educators as professionals that are capable of shaping students’ education paths. This study implemented a primary quantitative research methodology, employing a purposive sampling for selection of the population of 109 teachers having experience range from 0 to 10 years and above. The descriptive statistics resulted in the mean value ranging from 0.35 to 2.17 while the standard deviation value ranged from 0.479 to 1.385. The frequency statistics of responses illustrated mostly positive reactions from most respondents. The Pearson’s Correlation analysis provided a wide range of values, with a specific note on the probable negative correlation in regarding the factor of not putting effort to make teaching effective against other aspects associated with motivation having a role in professionalism of teachers. The study further on employed a Multiple Linear Regression, including a Model Summary that illustrated a probably effective linear relation between the independent and dependent variables. The ANOVA illustrated the strong potential significance of the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. Furthermore, the study employed a Cronbach’s Alpha as a reliability test, which resulted in a higher reliability in terms of internal consistency of the items. The study had contributed to the assessment of understanding the contributing influence of motivation in the aspect of professionalism of the teachers. The results had illustrated the positive impact that motivation had on professionalism. The findings further on indicated that certain aspects of professionalism can influence the development of motivation and lead teaching.
