Expendable-Pattern Expendable-Mold Casting Processes
摘要
This chapter provides an in-depth explanation of expendable-pattern expendable-mold casting (EPEMC) processes, including their engineering analyses. The investment casting process (ICP) is discussed with reference to its advantages and disadvantages and mathematical modeling. The steps involved in ICP are explained with the aid of diagrams. Recent developments in investment casting technology are also highlighted with reference to 3D printing of wax patterns, shell thickness uniformity in gas-turbine blades, and high-performance aluminum alloys. Engineering analysis of ICP is presented, taking into consideration the thermal expansion of the wax pattern, the flexural strength and the hoop stress in the ceramic shell, and the feeder positioning. Lost foam casting (LFC) process is discussed with reference to its working principle and merits in comparison with sand casting. The steps involved in LFC are described with the aid of labeled diagrams. Engineering analysis of LFC covers the determinations of the mold filling velocity, the pouring time, choke area, and the molten-metal front velocity. Finally, full mold casting (FMC) is explained. This chapter includes ten worked numerical examples, nine formulas/equations, four diagrams, three tables, and five MCQs with answers given at the end of this book.
