Die-Casting Processes
摘要
This chapter presents an in-depth discussion and analysis of die-casting processes. Permanent-mold casting processes have been defined and classified along with their advantages, applications, and limitations. Gravity die casting (GDC) is explained with reference to each step of the casting operation. Low-pressure die casting is also described with the aid of a sketch. High-pressure die casting (HPDC) is discussed with reference to its advantages and limitations, die material, cold-chamber HPDC, hot-chamber HPDC, and the components of a die-casting machine. A distinction is made between the hot-chamber and cold-chamber HPDC machines, with particular reference to the range of pressures applied during the process. The selection of materials for dies for HPDC is also briefly discussed. Engineering analysis of HPDC includes the determinations of clamping force, plunger velocity, die-casting cost, and the HPDC product cost. This chapter contains 15 worked numerical examples, 9 diagrammatic illustrations, 14 formulas/equations, and 8 MCQs with their answers given at the end of this book.
