It’s Sunny and Bright: UV Exposure
摘要
Sun exposure management is an issue across athletes of all sports and ages. One study looking at NCAA athletes at Duke and Stanford found that the average athlete spent 4 h per day, 10 months of the year training outdoors, with 84% of these athletes experiencing a sunburn in the last year [1]. Other studies have consistently shown that higher levels of physical activity are correlated with greater skin cancer risks [2]. This exposure can place athletes at risk of exposure related injury including sunburn and cancer. Controlling exposure and using sunblock or shade is critical to protection and long term safety.
