The continuing good performance of materials is essential for the safety and reliability of offshore structures, particularly in their extended life. This book has examined in depth the performance of the two widely used materials, namely steel and concrete. Offshore installations constructed of both steel and concrete have now been in use for several decades and a wealth of experience has been gained on their performance. However, in recent years life extension has been required for these installations bringing more significant material issues which have been addressed in this book.
