This chapter shows two practical application examples of NDE 4.0 in the automotive industry. The detection of paint defects on a body and the detection of air bubbles in folded adhesive joints have so far been difficult to test nondestructively and automatically in the production process. The automatic paint defect detection in the production process was previously carried out manually. An approach to automatic visual inspection is presented, and the results of validation and improvement are discussed. For the detection of air bubbles in folded adhesive bonds, a developed phased array probe will be presented. Extensive simulations were used for optimization during development, which are the focus of this chapter. The final tests on real body components will also be presented.
