Robotic NDE for Industrial Field Inspections

Just as we need regular health exams to maintain wellness and stay free from disease, exams for industrial and infrastructure assets ensure their health and safe operations. Regular doctor’s visits and checkups can detect health problems before they begin or become severe, and the sooner and earlier a problem is detected, the better the chances for a cure or treatment. Similarly, industrial and infrastructure inspection in general, and corrosion monitoring specifically, protects and ensures the safety and integrity of bridges, dams, ships, oil and gas refineries, manufacturing plants, electrical transmission towers, wind turbines, and more. The use of robotic inspection systems for industrial assets in the field can assist NDE 4.0 with the task of saving lives by moving workers from harm’s way and gathering information to help prevent catastrophic accidents. NDE 4.0 enables the extrapolation of knowledge concerning an asset’s operational and functional viability, future operational requirements and needs, and estimated life cycle performance and efficacy.
