How will Hyperloop impact the daily lives and economic well-being of Latvian residents, as well as the development of the country’s Intelligent Transportation System? How much are residents of Latvia willing to pay for a Hyperloop ticket, considering current labour market dynamics? This research presents a comprehensive analysis of the socio-economic impacts of Hyperloop technology, with a focus on the EU’s green and digital transformation objectives. The study includes a case analysis of the European Hyperloop Week 2023 contest, specifically the teams competing in the socio-economic category: DELFT, Queen’s Hyperloop, Avishkar, Hyperlink, and Swisstube. The socio-economic impacts of Hyperloop were evaluated across fifteen categories. A survey conducted among students and graduates in transport, transport services, and logistics, residing in Riga, revealed significant interest in Hyperloop technology and its potential implementation in Latvia. However, respondents indicated they are unwilling to pay more than 20 EUR for a city ride or 30 EUR for an intercity connection. The majority also expressed a willingness to consider international travel via Hyperloop. To assist decision-makers, the study provides policy recommendations for the successful implementation of Hyperloop in Latvia.
