It is used in electroplating, ceramics, and pigments and as an intermediate (catalyst, formation of other nickel compounds). Ferronickel is used to prepare steel. Stainless steels contain as much as 25–30% nickel. Nickel is widely distributed in nature and is found in animals, plants, and soil. Fossil fuel combustion is the largest contributor to atmospheric nickel, accounting for 62% of global anthropogenic emissions in the 1980s. Intake of nickel through food and, to a lesser extent, drinking water is the primary route of exposure for the general nonsmoking population. The highest mean concentrations of nickel were measured in beans, nuts, and cereals. Nickel and nickel metal compounds cause lung, nasal cavity, and paranasal sinus cancer. Soluble nickel compounds are rapidly absorbed through the lungs and excreted in the urine.  In analytical papers, no one mentions metabolites, but they are determined as elements after destroying samples and releasing them from complexes with proteins where they are bound.

摘要

The main foods contributing to the nickel daily intake are cereals, legumes, vegetables, fresh fruits, sweets, particularly leafy vegetables, tomatoes, citrus fruits, chocolate products, and coffee and tea.
