The conceptualization of human vulnerability in Sacred Scripture, as outlined in the preceding volume, will be analyzed in this first chapter. Vulnerability is delineated as a fundamental aspect of human existence characterized by openness, dependency, and fragility. A tripartite approach is employed to explore vulnerability within biblical discourse, examining its representation through symbols, narratives, and ethical imperatives concerning marginalized individuals. This method offers a comprehensive and innovative perspective that complements existing studies in biblical moral theology. Furthermore, the flexibility of these literary forms underscores the cultural and contextual dimensions of ethical considerations while highlighting their dynamic nature. Additionally, Paul’s treatment of asthenia (weakness), a concept often associated with vulnerability, is briefly highlighted before concluding with an inquiry into the notion of divine vulnerability as inferred from Sacred Scripture.
