Ethical Considerations and Bias in AI Applications in Healthcare
摘要
This chapter examines the ethical issues and biases inherent in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) within healthcare, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges AI presents for enhancing patient care. Key ethical concerns include protecting patient privacy, obtaining informed consent, ensuring transparency, and establishing accountability within AI-driven decision-making processes. Biases within AI algorithms—arising from unbalanced data, flaws in algorithm design, or unintended human influences—pose significant challenges, potentially leading to disparities in healthcare delivery and exacerbating existing inequalities. To address these issues, this chapter proposes a comprehensive, patient-centered strategy focused on fairness and equal treatment. This approach emphasizes rigorous data management practices, thorough evaluations of algorithm performance, and sustained ethical oversight, while advocating for diverse representation in AI development teams and the involvement of all stakeholders in decision-making. By proactively addressing the ethical considerations and biases in AI implementation, healthcare providers can leverage AI’s benefits while promoting equitable and ethical patient care.
