This chapter specifically builds on the history and development of political cartoons in Kashmir. Tracing the history of Political cartoons is one of the main objectives the book sets out to achieve. Considering this book is the first academic inquiry into the subject, it becomes more important to trace this growth and development of the genre in Kashmir. This is done by first tracing the history and importance of political cartoons in India and then contextualizing the genre's growth in Kashmir vis-à-vis the history of the press in Jammu and Kashmir. As we delve deep into the chapter, we will also try to ascertain the current state of the genre in Kashmir and the possible future.
