Investigation of Molecular Polarizability and Order Parameters of E-24 NLCs for Electro-Optical Devices
摘要
Liquid Crystals are organic anisotropic materials that were widely used in display and electro-optical devices. In this, work the optical parameters such as birefringence (∆n), molecular polarizabilities (αₑ, αₒ), polarizability anisotropy (αₑ – αₒ) and order parameters (S) of a nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) E-24 were studied at different temperature ranges, which are useful for application point of view. Refractive indices and density of this material were measured with temperature. From the available data of refractive indices, it is found that the material E-24 exhibit high value of birefringence (∆n > 0.22). The higher birefringence leads to the order parameter of this material. The NLCs material E-24 is useful in displays, electro-optical and other optical devices because it operates in room temperature. The order parameters (S) were determined with the help of experimental data by using Vuks’ theory. The molecular polarizability, optical anisotropy and order parameters using the Vuks’ approach and their temperature dependence was discussed in terms of other theoretical models. The calculated values are in good agreement with literature in the nematic phase.
