This book is a planned product of an international conference held at the Sorbonne Business School in Paris in June, 2023. The organiser of this conference, Professor Didier Chabaud took the initiative because he believed, and we concurred, that immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs were too important a subject to lock away in academia. There now exists a very large and international archive of social science and business research on immigrant and refugee business owners, but voters and policy makers still think of immigrants as labourers. They do not understand nor appreciate the important economic and social role that immigrant business firms play in the immigrant communities either. Given the intense political attention to immigration in Europe and North America now and given the likely increase in volume of that immigration in coming decades, a product of war and climate deterioration, we believed that the business academy in particular needed to make accessible to a wider audience the accrued results of existing research on immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs, including as well directional signals on where that research is headed.
