The field of corpus linguistics (CL) has experienced significant growth and expansion in recent decades, evolving into an interdisciplinary discipline that has resulted in a substantial number of empirical studies (Park and Nam, 2017). This chapter aims to provide a systematic review of empirical CL research articles conducted in the Saudi context over the past two decades (2000–2022), utilizing SCOPUS and Web of Science databases. The specific objectives of this study are to assess the extent of empirical CL research conducted in the Saudi context and identify potential themes for future research directions. A systematic procedure and a set of criteria were followed, resulting in the inclusion of 10 papers for analysis. The findings indicate a noticeable increase in empirical CL studies in the Saudi context, particularly in the last three years. The primary focus of these studies has been on investigating vocabulary and collocations, followed by the examination of linguistic features such as phrasal verbs. Additionally, most studies have utilized general corpora, such as COCA, in their classroom settings, and have made use of freely available online and offline tools, such as Antconc. Based on the review, several themes for future research recommendations are proposed, taking into account topics of interest, participant academic levels, and corpus design and tools.
