The close and complex relationship between insects and coconut palms manifests the co-evolutionary of plant-insect interactions, significantly shaping biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics. This plant is a primary host for certain insects, serving as a food source for herbivores and attracting pollinators. The symbiotic relationship between certain beneficial insects and coconut plants is crucial for pest control and pollination, which enhances the health and productivity of coconut plantations. In this chapter, we will explore the interaction between coconut plants and herbivores from an ecological perspective. Coconut plants, as producers, have the potential to influence the complex communities around them. They serve as a source of food and energy for many living things, creating a close reciprocal relationship. Pollinating insects have a mutually beneficial interaction with coconut plants, maintaining productivity and enriching the genetic diversity of coconuts. Chemical compounds released by coconut plants serve as markers for herbivorous insects to recognize hosts, which has led to the emergence of specialist pests such as Rhynchophorus and Rhinoceros beetles on coconuts. Understanding how pests are attracted to hosts can be used to develop appropriate and selective control techniques, making pest control more targeted and environmentally friendly.
