The Invasive Coconut Scale, Aspidiotus rigidus (Hemiptera: Diaspididae): A Continuing IPM Challenge in the Philippines
摘要
Aspidiotus rigidus is the first insect pest that created havoc on the Philippine coconut industry. The pest’s exponential increase, infesting about ten million palms, and the rapid spread led to the near collapse of the country’s coconut industry. A combination of cultural, chemical, biological, and regulatory strategies was implemented to curtail further devastation but recurrence and spread to new areas are still being experienced to date. Further investigations are still on-going to determine pest management practices that would have long lasting negative effects to the pest.
