Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) is a socially important commodity that is widely cultivated by farmers throughout Indonesia. Coconut plantations in Indonesia is around 3,417,951 ha, dominated by smallholder plantations with an area of 3,385,085 ha (99.04%) but the issue is that coconut production is still low compared to the potential average production of superior coconut palm of >3 tons/ha. The low productivity of coconuts at the farmer level has persisted for more than 30 years, although many efforts have been made to improve production. This is partly due to pest and disease infestations. Many types of pests and diseases attack coconut plants, including coconut pest Sexava spp., which damage coconut plants in two ways: First, they directly damage female flowers and young fruits by feeding on these parts, Second, they damaged leaves, indirectly affecting the production of mature fronds, while young palms become stunted. The management of Sexava has long been attempted using eco-friendly techniques that support the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Mechanical, biological, chemical and cultural schemes were used to suppress field population of the pest. The combined efforts of the government and its agencies, non-government entities and the farmers can lead to implementation of pest management strategies that will prevent pest surge and spread, generate income for the farmers and prevent negative impacts to humans and the agricultural ecosystem. Further research is still needed to determine the most feasible method of pest management as IPM strategies needed to be dynamic and are influenced by advances in science and the ever-changing climate. Likewise, farmers must revise their mind set to be able to adopt to the current developments in coconut farming and be able to make it a profitable enterprise.
