A Review of Blockchain-Based Digital Twins in the AEC Sector in the Context of Application
摘要
With technological advancements, new challenges and security risks inevitably emerge. Thus, it is crucial to address these risks directly during the development stage. Blockchain technology presents a potential solution to meet these requirements and can serve as a foundation for other emerging technologies such as digital twins. Digital twins utilize collected data about the monitored asset to boost their performance and prolong their lifespan. Nonetheless, it is imperative to securely and reliably track all data and information to ensure the trustworthiness of analyses within digital twins. Blockchain’s key feature is immutably and traceably storing data, which can securely digitise intellectual property and assets. Therefore, this paper aims to examine current blockchain-based digital twin applications in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry to derive and summarise key takeaways, as a thorough comprehension of the tools is mandatory for their adoption. Additionally, the study will explore the pros and cons of blockchain-based digital twins to determine if it serves as a forward-looking alternative to traditional digital twins. Furthermore, a blockchain concept for the own implemented digital twin is proposed.
