Chapter 1 provides a short sketch of this book, a history of the low temperature detectorLow Temperature Detector (LTD) community, the particle types to be detected, and introduction to all the superconductor detector types since the discovery of superconductivity. A detailed history of each superconductor detector type is covered in the subsequent Chapters. Finally, the superconductor materials used for detectors are listed.
