In the region of Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico, the incidence of renal diseases raises a notable concern. This study addresses for the exploration and evaluation of factors related to these diseases, including water consumption and dietary habits, as well as awareness about renal health among the local population. An ad hoc questionnaire of 16 items was developed to gather data on various demographic and health aspects, including participants’ perception of the quality of drinking water and its impact on renal health. The questionnaire was distributed online through various social media platforms and health websites. A total of 491 responses were collected and analyzed using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical techniques for the quantitative and qualitative nature of the data. The results revealed a notable lack of awareness about the effects of non-potable water on renal health, with a significant percentage of respondents expressing the need for more information and education on this topic. Despite the study’s limitations, such as the lack of precision in some items, the findings provide a solid foundation for future research and intervention programs aimed at improving renal health in the region. The importance of preventive and educational actions to address this emerging public health issue in Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico, is emphasized.
