Influenza: “Abrupt Onset of High Fever, Chills, Headache, Cough and Myalgias During the Cold and Flu Season”
摘要
Influenza is a major public health concern worldwide, causing annual seasonal epidemics with significant burden of disease, especially among young children, the elderly, and individuals with underlying medical conditions. Influenza primarily spreads through respiratory droplets, and symptoms typically appear within 1–4 days of exposure. The diagnosis of influenza infection involves a combination of clinical assessment and laboratory testing. Early intervention with antiviral medications, like oseltamivir, is crucial for reducing illness severity, particularly in high-risk groups. The most effective public health measure for reducing the burden of influenza illnesses is annual influenza vaccination for everyone aged 6 months and older who is eligible to receive a vaccine. Despite advances in treatment and vaccination, influenza-associated complications do occur, highlighting the need for prompt intervention and preventive strategies.
