Separate the fleshy leaves of the purple onion from each other, then prepare an epidermis peel from one of the outer surfaces! To do this, scratch a square into the epidermis, then try to peel off the piece of epidermis by grabbing the corner of the square with tweezers! Place the peel on a slide, and examine it in a drop of water with a magnifying glass and a light microscope (Figs. 12.1, 12.2, and 12.3)!
