Forest degradation, marked by a decline in forests’ capacity to provide essential goods and services, poses significant threats to biodiversity and ecosystem functionality. This chapter examines the multifaceted drivers of forest degradation, including unsustainable logging, agriculture, invasive species, wildfires, and overexploitation. These factors disrupt habitat structures, reduce biodiversity, and impair critical ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, water purification, and climate regulation. The chapter also highlights the role of co-extinction and the cascading effects of species loss on ecosystem health. To address forest degradation, the chapter advocates for comprehensive strategies, including standardized assessment methods, sustainable land management practices, and international cooperation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of conservation, restoration efforts, and clean energy adoption to mitigate the impacts of forest degradation and preserve the ecological and economic benefits of forests for future generations.
