Forest Fires and Forest Degradations: Approaches to Mitigation
摘要
India has witnessed an increasing surge in forest fires in the last few decades. These forest fires have devastating consequences on both our ecosystem and biodiversity. However, managing these fires sustainably is the growing need of the hour. Several approaches are being practiced for mitigating forest fires all around the world with a paradigm focusing on early detection and community engagement. Sustainable forestry practices and ecosystem restoration play a pivotal role in enhancing resilience against fire outbreaks. Integration of advanced technologies such as aerial photographs, remote sensing, drones, and wireless networks aids in efficient and precise monitoring. Legal interventions promoting fire-resistant vegetation, community awareness, and international collaboration are integral for a comprehensive mitigation strategy. Therefore, this chapter advocates a holistic approach, blending ecological, technological, and societal efforts to safeguard forests, preserve biodiversity, and counter the impacts of wildfires and degradation on ecosystems and communities.
