Geometric Abstractions in Real Space New Opportunities for a Distance Learning and Teaching Geometry

The situation of the Covid-19 pandemic has led to increasing problems in the organization of the educational process. In teaching mathematics, one of the main tasks before the teacher is to teach students to apply their knowledge of geometry to solve actual practical problems. However, the online training mode makes it difficult to complete this task. Online communication makes it difficult for the teacher to deploy real objects that correspond to geometric abstractions. This article presents the technology for teaching geometry, which can be implemented in full-time and distance learning. The article aims to present the technology for teaching geometry and evidence of its effectiveness. We found that learning problems can be solved by using the opportunities provided by new technologies: dynamic geometric environments, augmented reality (AR), and 3D printing. GeoGebra was used as a tool to solve the aforementioned problems because it is a free, fast-paced dynamic geometry system. In 2020 GeoGebra developers provided users with the opportunity to embed interactive dynamic drawings in educational materials using an online platform for distance learning with a feedback option. We have organized experimental geometry training with GeoGebra in schools in the Arkhangelsk region since 2010. In 2020, a new objective arose due to pandemic limitations—the implementation of a remote format system that we had developed. This study shows that the presented technology for teaching geometry allows for strengthening its practical orientation and improves the quality of subject training.
