Special Groups of Faculty, E.G., Members of Groups Underrepresented in Medicine, Clinicians with Non-fulltime Appointments, Graduates of Non-US Institutions

Promotion systems are based on the model of faculty members following traditional career paths within academic departments. As the faculty of medical schools becomes increasingly heterogeneous, many individuals do not fit the traditional model and face challenges in building academic careers and navigating the promotions system. These faculty members include those from groups underrepresented in medicine (URM), non-full time and volunteer faculty members, as well as clinicians based in nonclinical departments, regional campuses, and affiliated institutions. A complete and persuasive application is especially important to ensure reviewers understand the unique situation of all applicants in nontraditional roles.
