This chapter provides an overview of the current state of research on first-person authority, including a brief survey of the different available positions, and explores how the view advanced in the book can be brought into dialogue with them. Since these views have not explicitly analyzed the phenomenon as it applies to children, one of the chapter’s central goals is to examine the implications of this book’s findings for future research on first-person authority.
