Bone loss about native hips or prosthetic acetabular components can lead to significant challenges in reconstructive efforts. Workup, classification, and treatment have developed significantly over time, and each patient requires an individualized plan for workup, surgical approach, and eventual reconstruction. Herein, evaluation, classification, and multiple techniques including bone graft, medial acetabular buttress augmentation, and lateral defect augmentation with augments are described and demonstrated through several case examples.
