While not attempting a comprehensive treatment of interpretive analytical methods, the chapter describes some of the diversity of analytical approaches often employed in policy analysis. Text can be seen through different lenses—themes, frames, narratives, and others. Two examples, one involving the use of vouchers for social service delivery, and another revolving around climate skepticism, are used to illustrate how approaches such as narrative and discourse analysis can be used to interpret policy situations.
