Consumers are one of the most influential external stakeholders of any apparel retail firm. Being considered with such importance, most of them are now getting to understand the significance of the products they use regarding sustainability factors. These factors uplift not only the suppliers but also the retailers to inculcate a sustainable culture in apparel retailing. As the apparel sector is influenced by a large supply chain throughout its entire processing, the focus on green retail practices gives scope to improve the supply chain management to a greater extent. Effective communication between the retailers and suppliers is imperative to elucidate a good medium for the consumers to interpret sustainability effortlessly. This paper studies how consumers’ sustainability principles are driven towards the retail transition from brick-and-mortar to e-commerce. The relationship between the retailer and suppliers should be well managed to establish sustainable practices in the apparel industry. Even when the users understand the efforts of the retailers towards sustainability goals, the retailers are not motivated due to users’ behaviour as they don’t give more preference to sustainable products and it should be changed to ensure effective sustainable retailing practices. The key strategies to maintain sustainable retailing are discussed in the view of achieving long-term environmental and social objectives while maintaining profitability. This chapter discusses in detail about the various strategies applicable to ensuring sustainability in apparel retailing and the sustainability outcomes of the proposed activities are also highlighted.
