Remote sensing using satellites, manned or unmanned aerial vehicles (AVs), and weather balloons provides critical data for sustainability determination. This chapter introduces remote sensing devices, different sensor types, and data extraction and processing. The advantages and disadvantages of different procedures are also discussed. One of the critical disadvantages of RS is that, for developing countries, obtaining RS data for research and development purposes may be complex, thus not efficient to use RS technology to support sustainable development.
