Food Security and Nutrition for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean
摘要
This chapter presents an overview of the current situation of food security and nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlights its importance for sustainable development, and shows how the region has advanced in this area in short and long term. It indicates that the prevalence of food insecurity, overweight, and obesity in the region is due in significant part to the cost and unaffordability of a healthy diet, showing the relatively highest cost compared to other regions and the average global estimate. In this regard, the chapter focuses on the role of the inefficiencies of the agri-food regional system. It also presents general recommendations for progress towards meeting the SDG2 targets for eradicating hunger, achieving food security, and improving nutrition for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
