The Aesthetic Shock
摘要
This chapter explores the various perspectives from which the aesthetic shock can be dealt with: social studies, philosophical aesthetics, and evolutionary psychology. The chapter will argue that the main limitation of the proposals for overcoming the aesthetic shock coming from these disciplines is that they consider beauty as a purely immanent category. Without a transcendental beauty that radiates from God’s being and diverges considerably from our daily aesthetics, the aesthetic shock will continue to hinder the integration of persons with atypical bodies.
